Breakdown
BattleTanx: Global Assault (N64)

BattleTanx: Global Assault is a great sequel to the original BattleTanx, with more tanks, weapons, and modes of play, this game is a definite MUST! After you beat it, it will have you craving another sequel! Like the first one, this also has possibly the simplest controls an Nintendo 64 game is going to have. Move with the control stick (duh!), cycle the secondary weapon with B, fire secondary weapon with A, fire main weapon (which differs, depending on the tank) with Z, and that's all you need to know. It also requires quick thinking and strategy to kill Goliathes and stuff before it turns around and kills you. And don't let the title fool you; it isn't a global assault: you only travel to the US and Europe. The storyline ties in perfectly with the first one.

Graphics 6.5 out of 10

What can I say? The first one's graphics weren't exactly astounding either. Although there are nice special effects, the graphics are pretty basic (for an Nintendo 64 game.) However, don't let it discourage you, the rest makes up for it, BIG TIME! The nuke looks better than on Battletanx, though. It doesn't support the expansion pack, which is odd with current new games. They could have done better, but who really cares? If you're playing this game you probably want strategy overall anyway.

Music and Sound 8.0 out of 10

The sound is pretty good, not as good as the first one (which has GREAT sound,) but is still good. The sound effects are good, and really help you delve into the action. On the levels with trains, however, the sound of the trains gets annoying after a while.

Game Challenge 7.5 out of 10

This game is easy at first, and then gets hard, then easy, and so on. The "tank bucks" system is a nice twist on the usual lives. With some heavier tanks, the cost is 25 tank bucks; while some of the smallest can take as little as 5 tank bucks. there are only about two boss tanks in the game, called "Annihilator Class Goliath tanks," they have two extra guns on the sides that you can destroy anyway. Although the main game is pretty easy, the multi player games against the computer are very hard, even with two players on your team.

Game Play-Fun 9.5 out of 10

I am ecstatic about the game play of this game! It's just fun sometimes to blow everything up! The multi player games are extremely fun, even alone.

Rumble Pak 10 out of 10

The rumble pak just makes it even better. When combined with the first-person view (right behind the turret) it can make it seem as if you were in the tank!

Frustration
The only bad thing about this game is the extreme difficulty of the multi-player games against the computer. Even if you can change the difficulty, it doesn't make much difference to me.

Replayability 10 out of 10

The thing that makes up for the difficulty of the main game is the fact that as you progress, you get more tanks (there are 11 in all) depending on how many tank bucks you get, so the challenge is making it to the end with all the tanks. The multi-player modes are great with 7 in all AND a 2-player campaign mode!

Game Value 10 out of 10

Definitely worth it. If the multi-player modes are better than on the original, it's the best multi-player game out there.

Overall 8.8 out of 10

BattleTanx is a great game with a great storyline that actually seems like a TV show with a two-part episode. If you've beaten BattleTanx, you've probably been anticipating this game.
